First 2+2 Meeting Between the Foreign Ministers and Defence Ministers of Indonesia and China Strengthens Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership
Senin, 21 April 2025Beijing, China – Minister of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin attended the inaugural 2+2 Meeting between the Republic of Indonesia and the People’s Republic of China, which brought together the Foreign Ministers and Defence Ministers of both countries. The meeting was held in Beijing, China, on Monday (21/4/2025).
In his opening remarks, the Indonesian Minister of Defence expressed appreciation for the convening of this strategic forum as a platform to enhance communication and mutual understanding between the two countries.
“Indonesia views this forum as a strategic platform that not only strengthens our bilateral partnership but also enhances communication, mutual understanding, and trust between the two nations,” said Minister Sjafrie.
The meeting also underscored the importance of upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the context of bilateral cooperation. Furthermore, the Indonesian Minister of Defence encouraged the strengthening of concrete and inclusive cooperation, particularly in the defence sector, in support of peace and stability in the region.
“Indonesia is committed to advancing cooperation within the framework of a comprehensive and strategic partnership with the People’s Republic of China in the field of defence,” affirmed Minister Sjafrie.
This 2+2 meeting between Indonesia and China reflects the commitment of both nations to deepening their bilateral strategic partnership. In the area of defence, the meeting emphasised the importance of increasing high-level military personnel exchanges, joint training, and practical collaboration between the armed forces, as well as cooperation in the defence industry.
“We hope this dialogue will produce concrete steps to further strengthen the strategic defence partnership between Indonesia and China,” the Minister of Defence stated.
In closing, the Indonesian Minister of Defence expressed appreciation for the open, constructive, and respectful atmosphere that characterised the discussions. He also emphasised the importance of a shared commitment between the two countries to reinforce bilateral defence relations, which not only contribute to the resilience of both nations but also to the achievement of regional peace and stability.
The meeting was also attended by senior ministerial representatives from both sides: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiyono, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, and Chinese Minister of National Defence Admiral Dong Jun.
